A Passion for Holistic Health
Even before I started my company Green Lotus Wellness Center, I have always had a passion for holistic health. Even when I was a young girl, I knew that eating “whole foods” - along with exercise - made sense for a healthy and beautiful body. I also noticed that healthy eating gave me fewer breakouts and healthier, more vibrant skin.
This natural approach I embraced to healthy eating set me on a journey toward holistic living. This was, and has become, a journey and a process of understanding.
A Journey Towards Health and Happiness
Becoming a Professional
My career as a spa/wellness professional began in 2003 as a licensed Aesthetician. I graduated from the Brown/Aveda Institute in Mentor, OH, and I practiced holistic skin care for 7+ years.
In 2010, I went to the I-ACT-accredited Quiet Tide School for Colon Hydrotherapy and obtained my Foundational Level Certificate to practice colonics. I then opened my first practice, La Verte Wellness Spa, in 2011.
In 2012, I studied nutrition and holistic living at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. There, I learned more than 100 dietary theories and the idea of bio-individuality. This gave me a broad perception about nutrition, and how food affects people differently. I also learned about the idea of "primary foods," which are the “non-foods” that feed us, such as relationships, spirituality, career, etc. and is an integral component to our health and well-being. At times, primary foods override actual food as a component to good health.
By 2013, I had traveled to Switzerland and studied for my Intermediate Level Certificate under the I-ACT-accredited International School for Colon Hydrotherapy. Colon hydrotherapy, under I-ACT guidelines, covers a broad curriculum that involves the detailed processes of:
- Digestion, Assimilation, Absorption and Elimination
- Nutritional Cleansing
- The Overall Process of Cleansing the Colon
- Stress Reduction
- Connected Breathing
In 2014, I took an intensive aromatherapy course through the Center for Aromatherapy Research and Education. I received five Aromatherapy certifications:
- Practical Application/Uses of Essential Oils
- Spiritual/Biblical History of Essential Oils
- Raindrop/Vita Flex Technique
- Emotional Release With Essential Oils
In May 2016, through the School of Holistic Health Careers, in Columbus, OH, I obtained my certification in Elemental Reflexology, which has its roots in Ayurvedic and Polarity principles. This course covered elemental theories and constitutional characteristics and imbalances. Certain protocols are implemented, in accordance with the elements, to assist in re-balancing the energy zones and meridians through the reflex points on the feet.
In October 2016, I received my Advanced Level Certification through I-ACT as an advanced-level Colon Hydrotherapist. This certification, through the understanding of advanced anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal tract, I obtained at the Detonix Colonic Center in Phoenix, AZ under the supervision of Jay Wilson, Instructor for I-ACT.
Currently, I am working on my degree and board certification in Holistic Nutrition and Fitness at SWIHA (Southwest Institute of Healing Arts) in Tempe, AZ. I am expected to graduate in May 2020.
